It takes a while to  make a length of PVC turn "true"...


Sanding and threading a coil form - 4.25" OD x 40 threads per inch!


A close-up of cutting the threads, gradually deeper and deeper...


The Shelton lathe is in back gear on the slowest speed (30 RPM)...


Here is the final threaded form - a PVC bolt, 4.25" - 40 TPI!


You can just see the grooves!


Here is what the winding looks like.  This is only 26 AWG wire!


Here is the coil after winding.  The turns are space wound very slightly...

I guess I should make Frank one too...

I was thinking of a McIntosh Hogan when I made Frank's...


18 AWG, 20 turns per inch...


And why not a third?  Here is my coil made for a special reproduction of the Strong-Ovington apparatus.
Originally designed by Frederick Finch Strong and built by Earle L. Ovington.  These were two men
that played critical roles in the development of therapeutic Tesla Coils.


I also managed to turn some aluminum for a spark gap...


And create a half a bin full of funny spiral PVC turnings...It looks like a poodle got a haircut...
